Use an application form that provides you with enough information to get your background check started.  If you donð€™t have the right questions on the application, you will have a hard time doing a background check.  Have someone who has done background checks create your application.

The first thing you need to do is a Social Security Check.  This is a powerful employment screening tactic.  Order this check to authenticate the applicantð€™s Social Security.  This check can reveal all past addresses and aliases.  Many people steal other peopleð€™s Social Security number.

After you have the information from the Social, you can start the employment criminal background check.  You can also start checking the individual"s driving record.  These two searches will give a better idea of the prospective historical data.

After you have gathered the information from the Social, Criminal, and Driving Records compare it to the application filled out by the individual.  If some things donð€™t match, then you should talk to the individual and ask why the difference.  Many times they will not remember that they had made some changes in their past with names or addresses.

Now, you can do a credit check as part of the employment screening.  The credit report you get will be for employment decisions and this report will be different from a financial institution looking for credit worthiness. You cannot use a standard credit report for making employment decision.

If you want to do the employment criminal background check, you will need a birth date.  You will not be able to get this on your initial employment application.  If you decide to hire this person, you can get their birth date.  Make employment contingent on them passing their criminal check.

One thing most screeners miss is getting past co-workers names and phone numbers.  Usually they will get supervisorð€™s names but also fail to get their phone numbers.  So get these names and phone numbers so that you can call and get more information on the prospective individual than would be provided by Human Resources.
