Professional Resume Writing Services: A Well Written Resume Gets Your Foot in the Door

In this time of economic and job uncertainty, there is more need than ever for professional resume writing services. It"s an unprecedented tough job hunting environment out there right now for laid off executives and professionals of all types. It seems like no one is being spared the pink slip including hiring managers.

Your Resume - What Employers Want to See

The recruiting industry has changed dramatically since the mid-90s when the Internet began to catch fire as a networking tool. Prior to the advent of online job boards such as CareerBuilder and Monster, your local newspaper had a monopoly on help-wanted advertising going back pre-Industrial Revolution (I remember a few years back being quoted $450 to run a 3-line ad over the weekend--for $50 more I could add a black border around it). Resumes came to you via mail or fax and the ones that got your attention arrived on expensive paper with signed cover letters--the presentation gave you as much insight into the candidate as the resume itself did. As an independent recruiter you were only as good as your database of candidates (which for most recruiters consisted of a Rolodex of business cards or a drawer full of resumes). You actively sought out individuals to network with, collecting every resume thrown at you regardless of the positions you were working on at the time. "Got a cousin in advertising sales? Have him give me a call!"

Simple Mistakes to Avoid When Creating Your Resume

Things to avoid

*If your cover letter isnt clear and to the point chances are they wont even make it to the resume.Ҡ Make sure youre clear and concise about why youre applying for the job and what you have to offer.

*Try not to list the past 20 jobs youve had that dont pertain to the position youre applying for.Ҡ Keep it short and applicable to what the company is hiring for, usually no more than your past 3 jobs.

*Dont just give job descriptions of your past work history.Ҡ Most employers know through the job titles what youve probably been responsible for.Ҡ This is your chance to highlight your accomplishments within that job description.

*The biggest mistake that people can make when creating a resume is not knowing what theyre applying for or who is offering the job.Ҡ Almost everyone has a website these days and if youre not utilizing the information readily available to you than youre missing out on an opportunity.Ҡ Using the companies language in your resume can only booster your chances of success.

*Dont lie.Ҡ If youre not qualified for a legal discovery position theyre going to find out sooner or later and its much more embarrassing later.Ҡ Be honest about your skill set, your education and any other information youre putting on your resume.Ҡ If they find out youve lied before youre hired it can, at the very least, be extremely embarrassing.Ҡ If they find out youve lied after youve been hired, it is grounds for termination and can ruin your reputation.
