How to Prepare for a Sales Job Interview

The interview will be your most important sales pitch, because you are selling yourself to the employer, but with proper preparation the interview can go smoothly.

Ensure you research the company and if possible the person who is interviewing you. The relevant information can usually be found on the company"s website, but information can also be found in industry related publications, which sometimes do profile articles on certain companies. It is crucial that during your interview, you are able to demonstrate a good understanding of what the company does and the products they sell. By simply researching the company before your interview you will boost your credibility with the interviewer.

Make sure you arrive prepared and review any documents you may have previously sent to the employer, that way, if they question you on any specific details you will know exactly what they are referring to. It is worth bringing an extra copy of your CV to the interview, just in case the employer does not have yours to hand. Other important documents such as your passport and your portfolio should also be brought with you.

Prepare questions to ask the interviewer. Asking questions will give you a greater understanding of what the company does and will reaffirm your interest in the company to the interviewer. It goes without saying to listen carefully. Answer the question the interviewer asks, don"t just say what you practised earlier. By paying attention to the position"s description you will be able to determine exactly what it is the company needs, you will then be able to explain why you are the best person for the role.

Whilst it is impossible to know what will be asked in your interview, there are obvious areas that will be discussed and it is essential you prepare thoroughly for these.
